Arulmigu Marudhamalai Subramaniaswamy Temple is one of the most revered and ancient temples dedicated to Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Nestled atop the scenic Marudhamalai Hills, this temple is over 1,200 years old and is believed to have been built during the rule of the Sangam period kings.
The temple’s name comes from “Marudha maram” (the sacred tree found in abundance on the hill) and “Malai” meaning hill. The serene environment, surrounded by the lush greenery of the Western Ghats, makes it a perfect blend of divine energy and natural beauty.
The temple follows Dravidian architecture, with intricate carvings, majestic gopurams (tower gateways), and steps leading up to the main shrine. The hill temple can be reached by either climbing a series of steps or taking a motor road that winds up the hill.
